Northcity4 has been a hive of activity lately. One of the most exciting projects developing over the last couple of weeks is the new work that Anna Davern has been making for her collaborative exhibition with Lucy James, The Lost Voyage of Captain Foley and the HMS Laburnum.
This show opens at Craft Victoria this coming Thursday and I can’t wait to see it. Every time I walk past Anna’s studio something new has appeared and been transformed into an intriguing artwork. It is even more special when Lucy James herself has been working alongside Anna, and I think that this collaboration is itself a treasure. A treasure making treasures! And when they’ve not been working alongside each other, they’ve been battling it out on instagram (@annadavern and @lucybjames)
Over at Craft, the exhibition detail states that:
The Lost Voyage of Captain Foley and the HMS Laburnum taps into the mysteries of ‘under the sea’ and ‘into the woods’ and explores and exploits the unknown, the uncanny and the unbelievable.
Artists Anna Davern and Lucy James will combine their shared obsessions of collage, composition and storytelling to present a tongue-in-cheek perspective of colonialism and the 18th Century fascination for the bizarre creatures that were brought back from the strange new continent of Australia.
More information on this exhibition can been found at Craft.

Thursday night will be a busy one for Anna Davern as she is also in another exhibition opening at Craft. This exhibition is a group show curated by Lauren Simeoni and Melinda Young, unnatural acts. This exhibition is paired with unnatural tendencies a collaboration between Melinda and Lauren, also a must see exhibition.
Thursday night will also be a busy one for our whole jewellery community as Phoebe Porter also has an exhibition opening the same night at Craft. So three excellent exhibition openings at Craft on the same night. We at Northcity4 all know what we will be doing that night!
