Northcity4 presents Shaun Tan and Oslo Davis in conversation.
Both artists’ work ranges across several areas where drawing and writing intersect as visual literature. Northcity4 is proud to be able to bring these two amazing artists together to talk about their individual practices as well grilling each other on controversial works, artistic techniques and possible future projects.
Shaun Tan grew up in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, and currently works as an artist, author and film-maker in Melbourne. Books such as The Rabbits, The Red Tree, Tales From Outer Suburbia and the acclaimed wordless novel The Arrival have been widely translated and enjoyed by readers of all ages. Shaun has also worked as a theatre designer, feature film concept artist, and wrote and directed the Academy Award winning animated short The Lost Thing. In 2011 he received the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in Sweden for his body of work.
Oslo Davis is an illustrator and cartoonist who draws for various magazine and newspapers. Most notably, Oslo draws cartoons for The Age, including Overheard in the Sunday Age. In 2011 Oslo was a Walkley Award finalist in the cartoon category. Oslo has illustrated for the NGV, the Immigration Museum, the Golden Plains music festival and the Melbourne Writers Festival.
