Georgie Brooks has an undergraduate degree in History (UNE), Honours in Interior Design (RMIT University) and an Advanced Diploma in Engineering – Jewellery at Melbourne Polytechnic.
Georgie’s initial practice was as an Exhibition Designer of cultural environments both here in Melbourne and Internationally in London and New York. Georgie is now a permanent resident at the renowned Melbourne studio, North City 4 and she teaches part time at tertiary level.
Her current practice straddles her interest in History, Exhibitions and Contemporary Jewellery. Georgie’s contemporary jewellery design is focused on transforming manufactured surfaces as an imperfect impression on her work. She is inspired by jewellery and its historical context and researches pieces from eras such as Roman and Byzantium and how the detail of such work can be applied in a contemporary context. She works with metals, gemstones and found objects
