Georgie Brook’s has recently developed a precious collection; Textura. It explores manipulating highly recognisable, common surfaces so that they become weathered and worn. The transformation of these surfaces form an imperfect impression on her work and like the discovery of a buried hoard; these pieces appear to have another story.
The provenance of all the gemstones Georgie uses is of paramount importance to her practice. For this reason, all gemstones in her collection are sourced within Australia from areas such as The Queensland Gem Fields. Many of the stones are personally selected and designed by Georgie and then hand cut by a master gem cutter. Alternatively the “Rough form” informs the final design of the gemstone.
Georgie has an undergraduate degree in History (UNE), Honours in Interior Design (RMIT) and an Advanced Diploma in Engineering – Jewellery at Melbourne Polytechnic. Previous to jewellery, Georgie designed exhibitions for cultural institutions here in Melbourne, London and New York.
